In 2023, the most common cause of short-term absence from work in the United Kingdom (UK) was minor illnesses, with this being a top three cause of short term absence for 94 percent of organizations surveyed. Furthermore, COVID-19 was a leading reason for 37 percent of respondents, followed by 45 percent who reported short-term absences for reasons related to musculoskeletal injuries.
