Global economic versus insured losses due to weather-related catastrophes 1980-2019
During the period of time from 2010 to 2019, global economic losses resulting from weather-related catastrophes amounted up to 1.6 trillion U.S. dollars, while insured losses equaled to only 601 billion U.S. dollars. As for the 1980-1989 period, economic losses reached 214 billion U.S. dollars, while insured losses amounted up to 74 billion U.S. dollars.
