MetLife's greenhouse gas emissions and offsets 2016-2022
MetLife's carbon emissions consistency declined between 2016 and 2021, but so did the volume of carbon offsets purchased from the company. From 171,850 metric tons in 2016, the company's emissions sunk to only 66,096 metric tons in 2021 - although the sharp fall in 2020 and 2021 were assisted by the coronavirus pandemic. However, if they had maintained the same level of carbon offsets in 2020 as in 2019 (98,470 metric tons), MetLife would have technically been operationally carbon neutral in 2020. As of 2022, the carbon emissions and carbon offsets of MetLife increased.
