U.S.-based self-driving car company Cruise became a unicorn in 2022, and had a valuation of 14.6 billion U.S. dollars as of 2024, the highest of any climate tech unicorn worldwide. Only six of the world's 20 highest valued climate tech unicorn companies were based outside of the United States and China at the start of 2024. Collectively, the leading 20 climate tech unicorns around the world were valued at over 140 billion U.S. dollars.
