A glance at the graph reveals sizeable fluctuations in the number of stipulated contracts, with a peak of almost 5.8 million contracts in 2016. By the end of 2022, the number of standard options contracts had decreased to around 1.78 million.

The IDEM (Italian Derivatives Market) is part of Borsa Italiana and it allows trades of futures contracts on indices, equities and commodities such as electricity, as well as mini contracts.

An options contract is an agreement between two parties to facilitate a potential transaction on the underlying security at a preset price, referred to as the strike price, prior to the expiration date.
