Young people who neither work nor study in Italy 2022, by gender and region

In Italy, the Southern regions record the highest share of people who are unemployed and not receiving an education or vocational training (NEET). In Sicily, 34.57 percent of females and 30.36 percent males aged 15 to 29 years was neither working nor studying. The Northern and Central regions of Italy registered lower shares. However, in some regions the difference between NEET men and NEET women was remarkably high. For instance, in Trentino-South Tyrol, which had the smallest share of NEET youth, the percentage difference was by about seven points, with almost double the share of NEET women.
