The Great Trail was the longest hiking trail in the world as of 2021, with a total length of 27 thousand kilometers. The Sentiero Italia was the longest hiking route in Europe, at roughly 6.2 thousand kilometers. As of that year, seven out of the top 10 hiking routes worldwide were located in the United States.
