In 2022, supplementary tutorial schools or cram schools in Japan generated a sales revenue of around 1.1 trillion Japanese yen. That year, there were nearly six thousand tutorial schools in the country. It is common for children in Japan to attend such tutoring institutions to attain better grades at schools or entrance examinations for schools they wish to enroll in.
