Share of hotels participating in Tripadvisor Plus in selected cities worldwide 2021
In June 2021, travel company Tripadvisor introduced a subscription-based plan, Tripadvisor Plus, offering members rate discounts on accommodation and travel bookings for an annual fee of 99 U.S. dollars. Just three months after the launch, however, the firm announced major changes to the original program, replacing the discounts with cash-back benefits. According to a September 2021 analysis, in the month in which Tripadvisor revamped its membership plan, roughly 35 percent of New York hotels listed on the platform had signed up to Plus. Meanwhile, only two percent of hotels available on Tripadvisor in Buenos Aires and Tokyo, respectively, had joined Plus.
