In 2022, the total income from animals in South Africa stood at over 95 billion South African rand (around 51.45 billion U.S. dollars). Cattle contributed the majority of the generated income, at almost 54 billion South African rand (some 2.88 billion U.S. dollars). Live chicken and sheep followed with a sales value of 15.8 billion South African rand (1.22 billion U.S. dollars) and 8.3 billion South African rand (467 million U.S. dollars).
