France: methane emissions by sector 2022

Total annual emissions of methane (CH₄) decreased steadily in France between 1990 and 2022, falling from around 2.8 million metric tons to less than 2.2 million metric tons. The modernization of the energy transformation industry was the main reason for this decrease. The agriculture sector was the largest emitter of this greenhouse gas, with nearly 70 percent of the total emissions volume.
