Premature deaths related to air pollution in Montenegro 2021, by pollutant
Fine particulate matter (PM.25) is among the most fatal air pollutants worldwide. In 2021, exposure to high concentrations of PM2.5 was attributable to more than 1,000 premature deaths in Montenegro. In contrast, exposure to ozone (O₃) and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) combined led to some 140 premature deaths in the Balkan country that year.
