Global transport CO₂ emissions in the net zero scenario 2010-2050, by mode
Global road transportation emissions reached almost six billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCO₂) in 2022. Under the IEA's Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2050 scenario, emissions from road vehicles would need to fall to below 1.5 GtCO₂ by 2040. This pathway would require the accelerated deployment of electric cars and other low-emissions fuels. Overall, transportation CO₂ emissions would need to drop below 600 MtCO₂ by 2050.
