Debit card ownership in Sweden 2011-2024

According to a three-year survey, more than nine out of 10 respondents from Sweden owned a debit card in 2021, with about 91 percent actually using one. The difference between ownership and usage was roughly six percentage points in 2021, a slight increase from a difference of five percentage points in 2017. The report adds that women were more likely than men to own such a payment card. Gen Z - or the age group 15 to 24 years in this survey - were as likely to own a debit card than their older counterparts.

This question was phrased by the source as follows: "A/An [insert local terminology for ATM/debit card] is a card connected to an account at a financial institution that allows you to withdraw money, and the money is taken out of THAT ACCOUNT right away. Figures for 2024 are a forecast from Statista. Historical figures were used in a linear trend, to form a simple trend projection. This extrapolation uses the method of least squares.
