U.S. traffic crashes - total and pedestrian fatalities 2001-2021

Pedestrian deaths due to road crashes have been increasing in recent years. Fatalities among pedestrians had been on a downward tren between 2001 and 2009 but then began rising substantially. In 2021, pedestrian deaths reached their highest number over the past twenty year period. In that year pedestrian deaths on U.S. roads reached 7,388, compared to 4,109 in 2009.
