Total hospital beds include all occupied and unoccupied beds in hospitals which are available for admitted patients, and regularly maintained and staffed. They include such beds in general hospitals as well as in specialized hospitals. On the other hand, provisional and temporary beds as well as beds in nursing and residential care facilities are excluded.
