Presidential Elections that year.
In 2017 all three of Europe's three biggest economies, the United Kingdom, France and Germany had a general election, with the combined share of people voting for traditional center-right or left parties following to it's lowest level in over 60 years. In the 1970s and 1980s, around eighty percent of votes went to parties of this nature, but by 2017, only a thin majority of people voted for these parties. In general, the center-right parties have proved to be slightly more resilient than center-left ones, with the French socialist party in particular suffering poor election results in 2017, finishing in fifth place in the Share of vote for the major center-left and center-right parties in the United Kingdom, France and Germany from 1950 to 2017
