In 2021, the annual average unemployment rate in Latin America was around 9.3 percent. The figure represented the second highest rate since 2001, only behind 2020, when 10.3 percent of potential workers in the labor market were unemployed. This rate was substantially higher than the previous years, which could have been a result of job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic. During 2021, Bahamas ranked as the country in Latin America and the Caribbean with the highest unemployment rate.
