Projected CO2 emission reduction targets for new cars and vans in the EU 2025-2035
Stricter carbon dioxide emission performance standards for new cars and vans were adopted by the European Council in 2023 as part of the 'Fit for 55' package. The new regulations will require a 55 percent reduction in CO₂ emissions for new cars and a 50 percent reduction for new vans from 2030 to 2034, compared to 2021 levels. From 2035 onward, all new cars or vans placed on the market in the EU from 2035 should be zero-emission vehicles.
