In 2023, slacks or dress trousers were the type of trousers or skirt which most British adults were suitable for a woman's smart casual outfit. Chinos followed closely behind. Jeans were thought to be acceptable as smart casual by 65 percent of respondents, as long as they weren't ripped, which only eight percent of respondents thought could be considered smart casual.
