Local advertising revenue in the U.S. 2019-2024

The source forecast that local advertising revenue in the United States will grow by roughly nine percent in 2024, surpassing 175 billion U.S. dollars. The increase was partially credited to the presidential election. Compared to 2020 – the year of the U.S. last presidential election – the revenue will rise by an estimated 31 percent.

Digital and non-digital local ads

According to the same study, in 2023, local advertising on traditional media generated approximately 84 billion dollars in revenue. That accounted for almost 52 percent of that year's total. The prevalence of non-digital channels over online ones stressed the resilience of traditional media for local ads, despite the U.S. ranking among the countries with the largest number of inhabitants with access to the internet, third only to China and India.

Meanwhile, digital channels remain paramount within the overall American ad market. In 2024, online ad spending will reach an estimated 233.8 billion dollars, or nearly two-thirds of total ad revenues in the U.S. That amount was projected to expand in the following years and exceed two-thirds of the ad expenditure by 2027.
