Murder rate in Latin America/Caribbean by country

Several countries located in Central America and the Caribbean registered some of the highest homicide rates in the Latin American region in 2021. Jamaica ranked first, with around 52.13 homicides committed per 100,000 inhabitants. Saint Lucia came second, with 38.96 homicides per 100,000 people. The source defines intentional homicide as the unlawful death inflicted upon a person with the intent to cause death or serious injury. When it comes to the total case count, Brazil was the Latin American country with the largest number of homicide victims.
