As of the third quarter of 2012 Apple held a 56.7 percent share of the global tablet market. Apple was the first company to release a modern version of the tablet computer, thus explaining the market share of 94.3 in the second quarter of 2010. Since then, other companies have struggled to produce products that could effectively compete. While the market has expanded as a greater range of products have been released, Apple clearly remains the market leader.
