Press freedom index in the CIS 2024, by country
Moldova had the highest press freedom index score in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2024, measured at 74.86 points. To compare, Russia's press freedom index score reached 29.86 points. Turkmenistan ranked the lowest in the region, with an index score recorded at just above 22 points. According to the index methodology, that corresponded to a very serious media freedom situation. Turkmenistan was placed 175th out of 180 countries investigated by the survey. Scores in the World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders ranged from 0 to 100 points, where 100 was the best possible result.
