The income generated from tourist accommodation in South Africa amounted to roughly 30 billion South African rand (around 1.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2023. A monthly overview of 2023 shows that December registered the highest income from accommodation that year, at just over three billion South African rand (around 160.5 million U.S. dollars). Furthermore, the revenue from the accommodation of visitors was lowest in April 2020 at 51 million South African rand (just over 2.7 million U.S. dollars) after the country entered a lockdown in an attempt to curb the rising coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rates.
