When surveyed in the 2022, nearly half of respondents in the United States indicated that their primary mode of transport for a short journey of around one kilometer or 2 miles was their own car. Around a third of respondents answered that they primarily walked for these journeys.

The source specifies each country sample consists of around 1,000 respondents in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, mainland China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Spain, and the U.S. In Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, and Turkey, there were around 500 respondents.
