Tech company intervention on false news U.S. 2018-2023
Public opinion on restricting false news is changing. A 2023 survey held in the United States revealed that 65 percent of adults believed tech companies should do more to stop the spread of false news even if this meant limiting freedom of information. The percentage of survey participants who felt this way was up by nine percent from the 2018 result, exemplifying the growing concern towards innaccurate information and increased interest in intervention from bodies and organizations outside the news industry itself.
