Rejected asylum applications in Germany, 2014-2024

In 2023, about 24 percent of all asylum applications were rejected based on merits, the same share of applications were rejected based on a formal decision. So far in 2024, this figure has risen to almost 27 percent. The share of rejected/ discontinued asylum applications in Germany peaked in 2017/18.
