The European questionnaire on Information and Communication Technologies Data reveals that there exists a disparity between the frequency in which people with a low (At most lower secondary education), medium (Upper secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary education), and high (Tertiary education) formal education level use the internet. This disparity although present in most countries, differs widely in its severity.
In 2020, Croatia had one of the most severe rifts in internet usage between different educational levels. While 96 percent of people with higher formal education used the internet daily, only 33 percent with low formal education did so. Data for Portugal shows a similar trend in internet usage, with 96 percent of people with high formal education using the internet daily but only 45 percent with low formal education do so. Scandinavian countries like Norway and Sweden have only small differences in daily internet usage between groups with different formal education.
