In 2023, the dating app Mamba was installed over 2.6 million times in Russia, thus making it the most downloaded app, followed by Tabor and Tinder. The latter withdrew from the country at the end of June 2023, allegedly due to commitment to human rights protection. Mamba was founded by a Russian-born entrepreneur Andrey Andreev who later sold his shares in the apps. A former major market player, Badoo, whose parent company is Bumble Inc., stopped operating in Russia in April 2022 in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

Prior to 2022, the Russian online dating market saw a steady revenue growth. However, following the invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent market exit of the key market players like Tinder and Badoo, it was forecast to have the same size in 2024 as in the previous year and only slightly increase in the following four years. Nevertheless, the number of users of services offered by dating platforms on the internet, such as matchmaking, chatting, flirting, and casual dating partner search, was expected to increase gradually in the years until 2028.

The most common reasons to use dating apps in Russia were to make friends and to start a serious relationship. Furthermore, 46 percent of consumers reported using such apps in order to fight loneliness. In total, six percent of Russians stated that they found their partners on social media and dating apps in 2023.
