In 2019, approximately half of respondents in the United States stated that they do not need to add sweetness and that they think low/no-calorie sweeteners are unhealthy as the two major reasons for doing so. The most frequently stated minor reason was that respondents stated that they consume low-or no-calorie sweeteners in packaged foods and beverages, but do not add more themselves, with approximately 28 percent of the respondents choosing this as their answer.
