U.S.: Pedestrian fatality rate in traffic crashes causing injury or death 2016-2021
Traffic crashes that lead to pedestrian injuries or fatalities in the United States have become more deadly in the early 2020s. In 2020 and 2021, more than one in ten traffic crashes with bodily harm to a pedestrian led to a fatality. In 2016, the fatality rate for pedestrians in these types of crashes stood at 6.6 percent, more than five percentage points lower than in 2021.
