Change in transport sector air pollutant emissions in the EU-27 1990-2021, by mode
Emissions of most major air pollutants from transportation in the European Union (EU-27) have decreased since 1990, owing to various policy measures. Light duty and heavy duty vehicles have experienced overall emissions reductions in all but one air pollutant since 1990, with NH3 emissions rising 124 and 44 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, international shipping and international aviation have both seen emissions growth with several air pollutants, including CO, NOx, and NH3.
