Mishandled baggage - U.S. airline industry 2023

In 2023, approximately 2.7 million mishandled-baggage reports were filed in the United States. This was a slight decrease from 2.85 files reported in the previous year. Over the period given, this figure fluctuated dramatically, and the peak was registered at 4.4 million mishandled bags in 2007.

American Airlines and US Airways are combined as American Airlines as of January 2014.

Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways data were combined as Southwest Airlines.

The values through 2022 were taken from previous editions.
