In 2021, the transportation sector in Italy accounted for 103.4 million tons of CO2 equivalent of greenhouse gas emissions. This figure marked a significant increase compared to 2020 when emissions were at 86.6 million tons of CO2 equivalent. The decline in 2020 was probably caused by the restrictions brought in during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Annual greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector in Italy in selected years from 1990 to 2021 (in 1,000 tons of CO2 equivalent)
