biggest bank of the Netherlands in 2022, based on assets. In the second half of 2022, this bank reached a solvency of 14.5 percent.
The solvency of the five largest banks in the Netherlands was much higher than was required by European law, despite some large differences between them. Nevertheless, in the second half of 2022, only Rabobank reported a higher CET1 ratio than in the first half of the year. CET1 ratio shows how much core capital the bank has versus its outstanding risks. Simply put, it displays how much capital a bank has in reserve in the event their investments go bad. The ratio is in an important measure that was introduced in 2014, in the wake of the financial crisis, to prevent a future financial crisis. By 2019, banks were expected to reach a minimum requirement of 4.5 percent. ING Bank was the Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of the largest banks in the Netherlands from from 2015 to 2023
