Export value of wine from Italy 2022, by region

Italy is one of the main wine exporters in the EU, but its twenty regions are not equally involved in the wine export. In the regional ranking related to 2022, Veneto ranked first with an export value of around 2.8 billion euros, followed by Piedmont with 1.28 billion euros and Tuscany with 1.25 billion euros. In 2019, these three regions alone represented almost 70 percent of the Italian wine export.

Booming wine export

The performance of these regions has surely had an impact on the increasing value of exported wine over the last years. The value of wine export went from 5,115 million euros in 2014 to 7,873 million euros in 2022. As far as bottled wine is concerned, the export value increased from 1.7 billion euros in 2012 to about 2.5 billion euros in 2023.

White and red wines

The increase in export value concerned both red and white wines, regardless of the quality labels used. The most significant increase could be seen in white wine with a Protected Designation of Origin label, as its export value went from 212 million euros in the first half of 2012 to 594 million euros in the same period of 2023.
