In 2022, the Peruvian government spent approximately 2.59 billion U.S. dollars in the military sector, down from 3.22 billion dollars in 2015, its highest expenditure figure since the beginning of the mentioned period. That same year, Peru had one of the largest number of active military personnel in Latin America.
