Influencer hierarchy on main social media platforms in China 2022, by fan base
As of 2022, mega influencers, namely key opinion leaders (KOLs) in China, on Weibo needed to have more than ten million followers, compared to five million for short video apps Douyin and Kuaishou. Overall, tier-1 influencers accounted for 0.3 percent of all social media influencers in China.
