Wine consumption in South Africa 2018-2022
As of 2022, the estimated consumption of wine in South Africa reached a record high level of 4.6 million hectoliters. This presents an increase of around 16 percent compared to the previous year. A major dip in the wine consumed was registered in 2020, with 3.1 million hectoliters. This was mostly due to the effects of numerous COVID-19 related alcohol bans in the country, which then continued to have an impact on the consumption of alcohol in the first few months of 2021.
