Mexico is the fifth leading producer of bananas in Latin America and the Caribbean, after Ecuador, Brazil, Guatemala, and Colombia. The Mexican regions that produce the most bananas include Chiapas, Tabasco, and Colima. In 2023, a total of around 85 thousand hectares of bananas were harvested in the North American country.

Additionally, Mexico is an exporter of agricultural goods. In 2023, for instance, the export value of bananas reached over 240 million U.S. dollars. The majority of the exports had the United States as a destination, with a value that surpassed 201 million U.S. dollars. Ranking second and third were Japan and Canada, respectively.
