Extreme Job
"Extreme Job" follows a group of young narcotics detectives that are supposed to carry out undercover surveillance of an international drug gang. They buy a chicken restaurant to use it for their undercover operation, but unexpectedly gain popularity for their food. The comedy must have hit the nerve of time, as it became the most watched movie in South Korean cinemas in 2019 and second-most watched movie in South Korean history.
Movie exports
In 2022, around 776 South Korean movies were exported and the export value of completed movies lay at around 71 million U.S. dollars. The leading destination countries for South Korean movies are typically Asian countries, like China and Japan, but also includes Western countries, especially the United States. South Korean movies were focus of attention in early 2020, when Parasite by South Korean director Bong Joon-ho won several Oscars, including Best Picture.
