Regional comparison and customs processing
Sydney Airport in Australia saw notably more passengers than Christchurch Airport; in January 2020 alone, over 1.65 million international passengers passed through the airport. Looking back over 2019, Sydney Airport’s average passenger numbers remained between 1.3 million and 1.4 million, with the exception of during peak seasonal travel months (for example, 1.46 million passengers passed through the airport in July and 1.6 in December). In 2018, 95.9 percent of passengers were processed within this time frame. Historically, the customs service has reached similar levels every year since 2014.
