U.S. adults awareness of Section 230 in 2023, by generation
As of April 2023, 37 percent of Generation Z adults in the United States had heard nothing at all about Section 2023, a legal provision that protects tech companies from being held liable for content posted by users of their online services. Overall, just seven percent of Gen Z adults in the U.S. had a lot of awareness about the legal policy. Awareness amongst Millennials was slightly higher. Although Section 230 protects tech companies to an extent, tech firms are, however, required to remove illegal or harmful content from their platforms once it is found.
