What is the value of organic food sales in the UK? In 2022, the sales revenue of organic food and drink sales in the United Kingdom amounted to around 2.9 billion British pounds. The European organic food market
European retail sales of organic food amounted to 54.5 billion euros in 2021. For the European Union, the number was almost eight billion euros lower. The difference is due to the high spending in countries that are not in the Union. Switzerland alone saw an organic food revenue of 3.7 billion euros in 2021, with per capita revenues in the country standing out among other European countries as the highest at 312 euros per person.
The organic food market in the U.S.
Across the Atlantic, consumers in the United States are not too enthusiastic about organic food products. A quarter of them never buy organic food, and over 40 percent of respondents stated in a survey that they just occasionally add organic food products to their shopping cart. Generation Z takes a bit more to organic than the overall U.S. population. The share of Gen Z respondents that only occasionally or never eat organic is about 5 percent lower than among all respondents. In practice, only 12 percent of the U.S. market for fresh produce is made up of organic items.
