The occupancy rate of hotels and similar establishments in South Africa in 2021 amounted to 23 percent. During the period under review, the occupancy rate peaked in 2003 at 57.7 percent and was lowest in 2020. Notably, the significant dip in 2020 can be linked to travel restrictions in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
