Global total primary energy supply 2020-2050, by source
The total energy supply from fossil fuels worldwide amounted to an estimated 475 exajoules in 2020, which made it by far the leading primary energy carrier. This accounted for approximately 79 percent of the total global energy supply that year. However, it is forecast in a 1.5 degrees Celsius scenario that the global primary energy supply from fossil fuels will decrease to just 100 exajoules in 2050, while renewable energy would account for approximately 480 exajoules of the world's energy supply.
