Number of emigrants from Africa 2020, by region of origin
In 2020, nearly 41 million people emigrated from Africa. Northern Africa was the main region of origin, counting around 12.3 million emigrants. Eastern Africa followed, with over 12 million individuals leaving its borders to reach a foreign destination. In general, the number of people emigrating from the African continent has increased significantly in recent years.
