The 2023 Tanabata festival in Sendai, Japan, was attended by roughly 2.27 million visitors. Tanabata is known as the Star festival, and is a traditional Japanese festival with mythological origins. Sendai is not the only locality in which Tanabata is annually observed, but it is one of Japan's most famous places to celebrate it.
