SVOD subscriber additions in the U.S. 2019-2022, by plan type
In 2022, nearly one in three new SVOD subscribers in the U.S. signed up for an ad-supported plan. The share of gross ad-supported subscriber additions increased in recent years. In comparison, in 2019, 17 percent of new subscribers signed up for an advertising-based version of SVOD services. With increasing prices and the effort of streaming companies to retain customers, more and more SVOD providers started to offer lower-cost ad-supported tiers.
